Converting waste into living space

With no major recyclers in Southern Belize, The Chaos Oasis aims to divert as much waste from landfill as possible. We use a wide range of inorganic waste materials in our structures including tyres, tins, jars, plastic bottles, bags, twine, styrofoam etc.

When waste materials arrive, they are sorted and washed with rainwater generated from our Earthship. Tyres form the foundations, plastic bottles and glass bottles can be used as bricks, or to help create unique lighting in a kaleidoscope of colour throughout the building. In making ourselves known to local schools, bars, restaurants, lodges, and local dumps we have been able to reuse over 1000 tyres, over 200,000 plastic bottles and over 350,000 glass bottles in our buildings so far.
